19-year-old Nigerian basketballer drowns in the U.S

A 19-year-old native of Nigeria and forward for the Binghamton University men’s basketball team, Calistus Anyichie died Sunday in a drowning disaster.

His corpse was discovered at the base of a 15-foot bank at Buttermilk Falls State Park in Ithaca, New York. Anyichie was starting his student year studying political science.

He was acknowledged as one of the state’s top scholar-athletes by the New Jersey State Interscholastic Association. He also was a part of the National Honor Society.

In other news, Boxing legend Pernell “Sweet Pea” Whitaker has been confirmed dead after being struck by a vehicle in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

The Virginia Beach Police Department said in a news release that the 55-year-old who won Olympic gold and championship belts in four weight classes was hit by a vehicle around 10 p.m. ET on Sunday at an intersection west of downtown Virginia Beach and pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene after the accident according to police, and the case is being investigated by the department’s Fatal Accident Crash Team.
