A housewife identified as Mariya Muhammad has been sentenced to two weeks imprisonment by a Shari’a Court sitting in Rigasa Kaduna without an option of fine.
Mariya Muhammad was sentenced to two weeks imprisonment for calling her neighbour, Hajiya Karima Sani, a prostitute.
Mariya was sentenced by Justice Dahiru Bamalli after she pleaded guilty to defamation of character.
Sani, a resident of Rigasa area of Kaduna told the court that she and Muhammad had lived like typical neighbours
”We have had good and bad days. We have had misunderstandings and quarrels. I decided to file a suit against her because she called me a prostitute and I am not. I am a married woman” she said.
Mariya disclosed during her cross examination that Sani has also called her names and that is why she decided to call her names as well.
I called her a prostitute because she has also called me names in the past’.
