Seven escape death as trucks collide in Anambra bridge

Tragedy averted as seven people reportedly escaped death in a multiple crash at Obosi bridge along Onitsha-Owerri expressway, Anambra state.

WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the accident involving three vehicles, a trailer, a Mercedes Benz tipper and a tricycle occured around 7:30am.

According to report, the truck conveying bags of cement rammed into the tipper and the tricycle following a brake failure.

Reacting to the incident, the State Sector Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Pascal Anigbo confirmed the incident and attributed the cause of the accident to brake failure.

According to Anigbo, no injury nor death was recorded in the incident.

“A total of Seven (7) people were involved in the crash ( all male adults). FRSC rescue team from Oraifite Unit Command are on ground controlling traffic, as well as clearing of obstruction caused, he added.

Also reacting on the incident, the Sector Commander Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State, CC Andrew A. Kumapayi warns drivers against driving above stipulated speed limits.

“He reiterates the importance of ensuring that vehicles are checked and serviced regularly, especially the breaking systems, before embarking on any trip.

“He also warns tricycle riders from operating on the expressway, as this is a direct violation of the Law.”
