From Biggie’s house to breakups: Bella, Sheggz, other BBNaija love stories that didn’t last

From Biggie’s house to breakups: Bella, Sheggz, other BBNaija love stories that didn’t last

For many Big Brother Naija viewers, the relationships formed inside Biggie’s house are almost as important as the competition itself.

Every season produces its ships. Some are little more than flirtations that disappear once the cameras stop rolling. Others survive eviction, the finale, public scrutiny and the pressures of life outside the house. A few even go on to marriage.

But there is another group: the couples who found love under Biggie’s watch, carried it into the real world, built lives around it and eventually went their separate ways.

Bella Okagbue and Segun “Sheggz” Olusemo have now joined that list.

The pair met during the 2022 Level Up season and quickly became one of the biggest couples to emerge from the show. Unlike many BBNaija ships, their relationship did not end when the season did. They remained together for almost four years, marked anniversaries, faced repeated breakup rumours and continued to present themselves as a couple. But that changed in January 2026.

On August 19, 2026, Sheggz finally confirmed that he and Bella had ended their relationship months earlier. Their story brings back memories of other BBNaija relationships that once had fans convinced they would go the distance.

Seven other relationships have sprung up from Biggie’s house but did not get their happily-ever-after outside the house. Let’s take a look at them all from inception.

Bella and Sheggz: Almost four years, then goodbye

Bella Okagbue and Segun “Sheggz” Olusemo

When Bella and Sheggz met in the Level Up house in 2022, their relationship quickly became one of the season’s major storylines.

They were intense, affectionate and often inseparable, but they also had disagreements that became part of their story. Even while they were in the house, viewers debated whether their relationship could survive outside the highly controlled environment of BBNaija. Shockingly, it did.

After the show ended, Bella and Sheggz continued dating. They became one of the few couples from their season to remain together long after the cameras stopped following them.

In July 2023, they celebrated their first anniversary. Sheggz described their relationship as having survived the odds, while Bella looked ahead to what the future held for them. By January 2024, when another round of breakup rumours surfaced, Sheggz publicly dismissed them, saying that he and his “wife” were fine.

For years, that made Bella and Sheggz unusual in the BBNaija relationship cycle. They had not only survived the show; they had survived the intense scrutiny that followed it. Sadly the relationship had quietly ended by the beginning of 2026.

On August 19, Sheggz broke his silence and said they had actually separated in January 2026. He explained that he had been away in England for medical treatment and returned to Nigeria in October 2025. According to his account, information he discovered after returning made him question the honesty in the relationship. He said he had given opportunities for the truth to be told since 2024, but the issues were not resolved. He identified trust and mutual respect as boundaries he could not overlook, especially when marriage was being considered.

Perhaps the most striking part of his account was that he said he had been preparing for marriage. Sheggz revealed that he had already bought an engagement ring and genuinely wanted the relationship to work. He also said he had remained single since the January breakup.

With rumours of infidelity and abuse surrounding the split, Sheggz specifically denied cheating on Bella and rejected claims that he was an abuser. He said he did not want to turn the breakup into an online fight and wished Bella well.

For a couple whose story began in Biggie’s house and lasted almost four years, the ending was a reminder that even the strongest BBNaija ships are not immune to the realities of life outside the show.

Mercy and Ike: From Biggie’s house to their own reality show

Mercy and Ike

Before Bella and Sheggz, there was Mercy Eke and Ike Onyema.

Their relationship began during the 2019 Pepper Dem season, where they quickly became one of the most talked-about couples in the house. Mercy and Ike had the kind of relationship that made good television. Their personalities were strong, their chemistry was obvious and their relationship became part of the wider story of a season that eventually saw Mercy emerge as winner.

But unlike many house romances, theirs continued outside. They remained together after the show and became so popular as a couple that they received their own reality series, Mercy & Ike. Their relationship was therefore no longer simply a BBNaija romance; viewers were able to watch more of their lives and conflicts after the show.

By late 2020, however, cracks were beginning to show. In November 2020, Mercy said that her relationship with Ike had ended months earlier, even before her birthday. At the same time, both stars exchanged social-media posts that fuelled speculation about the state of their relationship.

Ike also spoke about being single in January 2021, saying he felt he had given more love in 2020 than he received. But because fans continued to ask whether the relationship could still be revived, Mercy eventually made her position unmistakable.

In April 2021, during a question-and-answer session with fans, she confirmed that she and Ike were finished.

Break-up happens,” she said, making it clear that they were “done” and that the relationship was not a publicity stunt. She said the “ship sank a long time ago” and urged fans to move on with them.

Kiddwaya and Erica: When a popular ship became too public

Kiddwaya and Erica

Then came Kiddwaya and Erica, the couple fans affectionately called KiddRica. Their romance was one of the defining storylines of the 2020 Lockdown season.

Kiddwaya and Erica were drawn to each other during their time in the house, and their chemistry quickly became one of the season’s biggest talking points. Their relationship continued after the show, although they tried to keep parts of it away from the public. It was hard because their popularity meant that virtually every interaction was analysed by fans. Pictures, interviews and social-media posts were treated as evidence of whether they were still together.

In January 2021, Kiddwaya told The Punch that he did not think he had a love life and was trying to find love. The statement caused confusion because fans believed he and Erica were still together.

A few weeks later, on February 4, 2021, he explained himself. Kiddwaya said Erica had been his girlfriend at the time and that he had deliberately tried to keep the relationship private because he did not want the public too involved. He said his words had been twisted and had resulted in a wave of criticism. But by then, the relationship was over.

The breakup was particularly notable because KiddRica had been one of the biggest ships of their season. Their fans had imagined a future for them, while even Kiddwaya’s billionaire father had joked about the possibility of lavish weddings.

Neo and Vee: The couple that looked built to last

Neo and Vee

Neo Akpofure and Vee Iye were another major couple from the 2020 Lockdown season. Their relationship was different from some of the more dramatic BBNaija romances. They appeared to genuinely enjoy each other’s company and became increasingly close as the season progressed.

Neo’s gestures towards Vee became memorable parts of the show, and their relationship continued after they left the house. For a while, they appeared to have beaten the odds. But by late 2021, rumours of trouble had begun to circulate.

Vee initially refused to satisfy fans who demanded updates about her relationship. In January 2022, she angrily told followers to mind their business, pointing out that they had not been with her after she left the house and did not know what happened in her private life.

A month later, on February 25, 2022, Vee posted that she was enjoying the “soft and single life”. She and Neo had also unfollowed each other on Instagram, effectively confirming that their relationship had ended.
Neo would later discuss the relationship and the factors that contributed to its collapse, including his cousin, Venita Akpofure’s alleged involvement and outside interference.

Neo and Beauty: A second BBNaija love story

Neo and Beauty

Neo’s relationship history makes his story particularly unusual because he would later date another former BBNaija housemate — Beauty Tukura.

This time, the relationship was a cross-season romance. Beauty was a Level Up housemate in 2022, while Neo had first appeared on Lockdown in 2020 and later returned for All Stars.

After Neo’s relationship with Vee ended, he and Beauty began to attract attention as a possible couple. Their romance was initially kept relatively private, but by 2024 the relationship was much harder to hide.

By March 2025, Beauty herself confirmed what fans had been trying to establish. Speaking on Toke Moments, she referred to Neo as her ex and said she was single. Rather than dismissing the relationship, she described it warmly, saying they had been like “Rihanna and A$AP” while they were together and calling it a beautiful relationship. Beauty did not disclose the exact reason for the breakup. She simply said the reason was valid. And in Neo’s case, it was his second public relationship with a fellow BBNaija star to end.

Diane and Elozonam: When the reunion reopened old wounds

Diane and Elozonam

The Diane Russet and Elozonam Ogbolu relationship came from the 2019 Pepper Dem season.

Their connection developed in the house and became known among fans as Dialo. Elozonam, who entered the house as a fake housemate, became increasingly close to Diane, and their chemistry led viewers to hope that the relationship would survive outside.

It did, but only briefly. After the show, Diane and Elozonam continued dating. Their relationship eventually became strained, with disagreements and questions about trust. The details became public during the 2020 BBNaija reunion, when the pair revisited what had happened.

Elozonam gave his account of the incident involving Ghanaian actor Mawuli Gavor. He said Diane had invited Gavor to a party and later left with him, an incident he described as deeply hurtful.

Diane gave a different account of events and argued that Elozonam was unforgiving and continued to hold the incident over her.

The reunion became increasingly uncomfortable when host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu directly raised the issue of Mawuli Gavor. Diane eventually walked off the set.

Liquorose and Emmanuel: When EmmaRose fell apart

Liquorose and Emmanuel

If Bella and Sheggz represented the long-lasting BBNaija relationship, Liquorose and Emmanuel Umoh represented one of the franchise’s most heavily invested-in ships.

Their romance began during the 2021 Shine Ya Eye season. They became close early in the competition and were soon known to fans as EmmaRose. Their relationship survived the house and continued outside, with fans expecting the pair to remain together.

But their relationship eventually collapsed. By the time of the 2022 BBNaija reunion, it was clear that there was serious tension between them. Liquorose alleged that she had caught Emmanuel with another woman in a Dubai hotel room. Emmanuel disputed her interpretation of what happened and offered his own explanation.

The reunion brought those unresolved issues into the open. Liquorose also pointed to other moments that had affected her trust in the relationship, while Emmanuel maintained his own position about what had happened.

The breakup therefore became more than a simple announcement that a couple had gone their separate ways. It became one of the major storylines of the reunion, with the former lovers forced to confront the issues that had ended their relationship.

EmmaRose had once looked like one of those ships that could survive the transition from reality television to real life. Sadly, it did not.

Angel and Soma: A love story born in All Stars

Angel and Soma

The most recent couple on this list before Bella and Sheggz were Angel Smith and Soma Anyama. Their relationship came from the 2023 BBNaija All Stars season, which brought former housemates from different editions back into the same house.

Angel and Soma formed a close bond during the season and became one of the show’s most popular couples. Unlike a relationship that existed only for the duration of the programme, theirs continued after the finale. For months, they appeared to be together. Then the relationship began to unravel.

By late 2024, social-media changes had fuelled speculation that they had broken up. Angel eventually addressed the matter directly during an interactive session on X Spaces.

In November 2024, she confirmed that she was no longer with Soma. Her confirmation came amid controversy involving Soma’s former relationship, but Angel made it clear that she had moved on and did not want to remain caught up in the drama.

When The Cameras Go Off

If you take a closer look at these relationships, there is a common thread running through these eight relationships.

Inside Biggie’s house, love exists under unusual conditions. Contestants live together almost constantly, share intense experiences, compete under pressure and know that millions of people are watching them.

That can make relationships feel stronger, faster and more important. Outside, everything changes. There are careers to manage, families to deal with, long-distance arrangements, personal ambitions, money, social media and fans who feel personally invested in the relationship.

Some couples manage that transition. Others do not. Mercy and Ike went from being a BBNaija power couple to starring in their own reality show before eventually breaking up. Kiddwaya and Erica tried to protect their relationship from public attention but could not completely escape it. Neo and Vee survived the house but eventually went their separate ways, while Neo later entered another relationship with Beauty that also ended.

Diane and Elozonam’s breakup became reunion television. Liquorose and Emmanuel’s private problems became public during their reunion. Angel and Soma’s relationship ended after months of public interest. And now Bella and Sheggz have joined them.

The Ships That Survived

Of course, not every BBNaija love story ends in heartbreak. Some couples have proved that the relationship can survive beyond the house.

BamBam and Teddy A

BamBam and Teddy A turned their BBNaija romance into marriage and family life, even though recently there have been rumours of a marital crisis. Khafi and Gedoni also moved from the reality show into marriage.

Khafi and Gedoni

Those stories are important because they show the other side of the BBNaija relationship story. But the breakups are often the ones that stay in public memory. Perhaps that is because fans do not simply watch these couples fall in love. They watch the beginning, choose sides, give the relationship a name and build expectations around it.

When the relationship ends, it can feel like the end of a story they were following too.

Conclusion

Bella and Sheggz’s breakup has once again brought attention to the strange journey of BBNaija relationships.

Perhaps that is the real twist in every BBNaija romance: the hardest part begins after the finale. Biggie’s house can create the spark, but it cannot determine where the story ends.

Eight relationships. Eight different stories. Eight different reasons things did not work out.
