How pensioners can register for PTAD’s health insurance scheme

The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate has opened registration for its health benefit programme for eligible Federal Defined Benefits Scheme pensioners.

The programme allows qualifying pensioners to enrol for healthcare services through the PTAD Health Insurance Scheme online portal.

PTAD announced the commencement of registration in a post on its official X handle, urging eligible pensioners to complete the process through the designated portal.

“Dear Federal DBS Pensioners, Registration is now open. Visit https://phis.ptad.gov.ng to register and access this important health benefit,” the agency stated.

Who is eligible?

The PTAD Health Insurance Scheme is available to pensioners under the Federal Defined Benefits Scheme who are managed by the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate.

Registration for the programme is free, while the health benefit provides access to healthcare through hospitals and health facilities approved by the National Health Insurance Authority across Nigeria.

The benefit is tied specifically to the eligible pensioner and cannot be transferred to a spouse, dependant or caregiver.

How to begin registration

Eligible pensioners are required to visit the official PHIS portal and log in with their PTAD pension number and surname.

For first-time users, the surname serves as the initial password, after which the applicant is required to complete an identity verification process.

The verification includes taking a live selfie with a smartphone equipped with a functioning front-facing camera.

Personal information required

Applicants are expected to provide relevant personal information during enrolment, including their residential address, emergency contact and next-of-kin details.

They are also required to indicate their preferred hospital, while pensioners are encouraged to provide their National Identification Number where available.

After entering the required information, applicants can submit their enrolment for processing.

PTAD says approved applications typically take about 72 hours to process, after which successful pensioners will receive notifications through SMS and email.

The notification will contain information on how to access the pensioner’s National Health Insurance Authority card.

What pensioners need

Pensioners completing the online registration are expected to have their PTAD pension number and surname as registered with the agency.

They will also need a smartphone with a working front camera for the live selfie verification process.

A National Identification Number is recommended where available, while applicants should have their next-of-kin information and preferred hospital details ready.

Where pensioners can get help

Pensioners who encounter difficulties during the enrolment process can visit a PTAD state office for assistance.

The agency said PHIS-trained officers at its state offices are available to support eligible pensioners with the registration process.

PTAD has also advised applicants to use the designated portal and ensure that the information supplied during enrolment is accurate.

The registration process is therefore designed to enable eligible Federal Defined Benefits Scheme pensioners to obtain healthcare coverage without transferring the benefit to other members of their families.
