The Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma chapter has rejected the committee set up by the institution management to investigate disruption of its congress by some students.
It said it does not have confidence in the committee.
The AAU-ASUU demanded a higher authority (the University Council) to handle the investigation and general problem of insecurity of its members within two weeks.
It said it would take further necessary action if the Council failed to set up an investigative panel.
Suspected students had on Tuesday disrupted congress of ASUU and inflicted injuries on its members
In a communique jointly signed by the Chairman of ASUU-AAU, Professor Monday Igbafen and Secretary, Anthony Aizebioje Coker, ASUU said security had totally collapsed within the campus.
According to the communique, “Congress resolved that the University Administration, based on an existing frosty relationship, the previous attack on the Congress as well as threat to the Union’s leaders, by the University Administration, is a principal suspect of the invasion.
“Consequently, Congress unanimously rejected the Committee set up by the University Administration to probe the invasion of the Union’s Congress for lack of confidence and, in particular, the person that was made the Chairman of the said. Committee.
“Congress therefore demanded for a higher authority (the University Council) to handle the probe of the invasion and the general problem of insecurity of its members within two weeks, failing which the Union will take further necessary action.”
The Union said it kept its door open to a possible out-of-pocket settlement of the matter.
