Due to concerns about a new Coronavirus variant, Israel and the United Kingdom have imposed new travel restrictions on several African countries.

South Africa, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Namibia, and Eswatini have been reclassified by Israel, according to Prime Minister Naftali Bennett’s office following a special meeting.

Foreigners from these countries are no longer permitted to travel to Israel from those areas, and Israelis returning from there must spend up to 14 days quarantined in a coronavirus hotel.

They can be released after a week if their PCR test results are negative.

From midday on Friday, Britain will suspend flights from South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Botswana, Eswatini, and Zimbabwe, and all six countries will be added to London’s red list, according to Health Secretary Sajid Javid.

In southern Africa, the new variant B.1.1529 has been discovered.

According to the UK’s PA news agency, coronavirus cases with the variant have been confirmed in Botswana, South Africa, and Hong Kong.
