According to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command, it has trained 2,000 students and 300 teachers in the state on school security and personal protection.

This is stated in a statement signed on Saturday in Akure by Dr Hammed Abodunrin, the State Commandant of the NSCDC.

Abodunrin explained that the training was part of an effort to find solutions to the country’s rising cases of abduction, banditry, and kidnapping of students and teachers.

“As promised by the Ondo State NSCDC Command, we have begun school security training at the Federal Government Girls College in Akure.”

“In addition, 300 staff members, both teaching and non-teaching, and 2,000 students have received training in School Security and Personal Protection.”

“As a result, during the training, NSCDC distributes free First Aid Kits to staff and students of Federal Government Girls College, Akure, in order to train them to be first responders during emergencies.”

“Officers who delivered lectures as resource persons were drawn from the Command’s Training Department, Disaster Management Department, ICT, Anti-human Trafficking, Illegal Migration, and Gender Unit,” he explained.

Abodunrin explained that the command had educated the school’s female students and staff on basic security tips to improve personal protection both inside and outside the school’s grounds.

“The best form of security is one provided for oneself because only the person wearing the shoe knows where it pinches,” he added.

He urged the school administration to install detective equipment such as CCTV cameras, metal detectors, alarm systems, and lighting in all paths, citing the fact that criminal acts thrive in dark areas.

As a result, Abodunrin urged teachers, parents, and guardians to instill the culture of educating their children about personal security protection.

He stated that this would broaden their knowledge of security and help to alleviate the threat of insecurity in our environment.

Mrs. Adenike Lawal, the school’s principal, praised the command’s management and personnel for their pragmatic approach to addressing insecurity in the state.

Lawal expressed gratitude for the security training and stated that the school would continue to collaborate with security agencies to make Ondo State a safe haven for all residents.
