According to the Nigerian Army, forces from Sector 2 of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) inflicted severe casualties on Boko Haram and Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists after a hard battle at Buni Yadi in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe.

Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, stated in a statement on Wednesday that the feat was accomplished on Tuesday.

Nwachukwu stated that the terrorists who hurriedly attempted to gain admission inside Buni Yadi were met with fierce opposition from troops of the 27 Task Force Brigade and the Nigerian Army Special Forces School, who were assisted by the Nigerian Air Component.

He went on to say that personnel from the Nigerian Police also aided the troops, who fought valiantly and outgunned the terrorists with superior firepower.

The violent combat, he said, prompted the crooks to flee in different directions after suffering huge losses.

“The troops took out several gun trucks and their occupants.” The precision with which Air and Land troops engaged the terrorists, destroying their gun trucks, was revealed by preliminary battle damage assessment.

“Troops are still exploiting fleeing remnants of the terrorists,” he said.

According to Nwachukwu, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, commended the troops for their operational success.

“He also charged them with maintaining the current operational tempo in order to deny criminals freedom of action,” he said.
