Second Charles Ozazuwa Table/Tennis Championships kicks off in Edo Dec 21

The second edition of the Pastor Charles Osazuwa National Open Table Tennis Championships will begin on December 21 at Benin City’s Sam Ogbemudia Stadium.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the four-day tournament, which will be co-organized with the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF), will include 12 events, including one for the deaf.

On Sunday in Benin, Charles Osazuwa, the sponsor and General Overseer of Rock of Ages Christian Assembly International, told journalists that the tournament would showcase the best players as well as upcoming talents.

In contrast to the first edition, which featured only Edo players, Osazuwa stated that this year’s tournament would include youths from across the country.

“After the success of the first edition, I decided to extend the opportunity to youths across the country in order to inspire a new generation of table tennis players in the country.”

“The best players and upcoming talents in the federation will be showcased in this edition of the tournament.”

“The cash prize is very good, and I encourage those who have not yet registered to do so,” he said.

He stated that, in addition to the cash prizes, the tournament was intended to keep youths away from crime and other social vices.

“This development will also help the Edo State Government engage youths and keep them out of trouble.”

“We will train and support the top players and new players who will be discovered during the tournament in order for them to compete in international tournaments.”

“I’ve had a lifelong interest in table tennis since I was a child.”

“It has also been my desire to empower youths to develop their talents in sports,” he added.

Ama-Ebi Ebikpolade, Chairman of the South-South NTTF, praised the organizer for making the tournament available to the public and encouraged others to follow suit.

“I am confident that this edition will be superior to the first.”

“It’s very commendable that this edition is open to all,” he said.

Also speaking, Nosiru Bello, NTTF National Coach, stated that the federation supported the tournament because the organizer provided everything required for a successful event.

He also stated that the tournament would help to grow the sport in the country.
