Onuoha Friday, 43, was apprehended by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on December 10 along the Lagos-Benin expressway with one million Tramadol capsules.
Mr Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA’s spokesperson, confirmed this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja.
According to Babafemi, the agency’s operatives also made two major arrests in Anambra, where a total of 238.973 kilograms of various illicit drugs were recovered.
He claimed that on December 3, NDLEA agents intercepted a truck carrying illegal drugs on its way to Delta at the Onitsha head bridge.
He stated that the vehicle contained various amounts of codeine, tramadol, diazepam, and rohypnol, and that the driver, Obinna Obinwa, was arrested.
“Similarly, on December 8, the agency’s patrol team on the Onitsha head bridge intercepted another truck heading to Delta with various quantities of assorted illicit drugs, and the driver, Lucky James, was also apprehended.”
“In Delta, on December 10, raids and follow-up operations in various parts of the state resulted in the arrest of Abdulkarim Shiabu, 17, and Lawal Saidu, 23.”
“Both are from Niger Republic, as are four others, and they contain varying amounts of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, tramadol, and cannabis.”
“Also arrested are Precious Oghenegwoke, Loveth Omukoro, Uche Godwin, and Uti Harrison,” he said.
According to Babafemi, one Adam Salaudeen was also apprehended with 214.7kg of Cannabis sativa in the Ogori Magongo area of Kogi.
He quoted retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa, Chairman of the NDLEA, as commending the officers and men of Ondo, Anambra, and Kogi states for the arrests and seizures.
According to the statement, Marwa charged them and their compatriots across the country to stay watchful and steadfast in the collaborative quest to rid Nigeria of illicit substances.
