On Thursday, the National Commission for Refugees provided food packs to 300 IDP homes in Wase Local Government Area, Plateau.
This was accomplished in partnership with the Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons Initiative (NCFRMI) and the Nigerian Army’s Zero Hunger Program.
Mr Musa Kangiwa, Deputy Director of the Commission’s IDPs Department, expressed condolences to the families of the victims of the attacks that occurred on Tuesday night in the Penu community in the area.
Kangiwa attended the ceremony in place of Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, Federal Commissioner of NCFRMI.
Kangiwa prayed to God to prevent future attacks on the community and to give the families of the victims the strength to bear the loss.
“We’ve come to present Zero Hunger food packs to “Persons of Concern” as part of our Sustainable Development Goals to end hunger.”
“We are here today to alleviate some of the sufferings of our ‘Persons of Concern’ through these small food care packages,” Kangiwa explained.
At the ceremony, Lt. Janet Obolo, who represented Chief of Army Staff Gen. Farouk Yahaya, praised the effort.
“From what I’ve seen in Wase Local Government, they desperately need it.” I believe it will go a long way toward alleviating their hunger. I am confident they will appreciate it and the Commission as well as the Federal Government.
“We will continue to collaborate with NCFRMI and other relevant stakeholders to assist and facilitate interventions for ‘Persons of Concern,'” said Obolo.
Alhaji Musa Nyalun, who spoke on behalf of Rep. Ahmed Idris (Wase Federal Constituency), praised NCFRMI and the Nigerian Army for the Zero Hunger Food Care Packs.
Nyalun, Idris’ Special Assistant, added that his principal also sent 100 wheelchairs to be distributed to physically challenged members of the community.
Similarly, Dr Ado Buba, Chairman of Wase Local Government Council, expressed appreciation for the NCFRMI and Idris’ gesture.
Hajiya Hauwa Abubakar, one of the recipients, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the food care packs would help her feed her family.
She expressed gratitude to the NCFRMI and the Nigerian Army for the gesture and urged them to extend it to other traumatized people across the country.
Garri, milk, rice, beans, sugar, salt, and sachet tomatoes are among the foods included in the Food Care Packs.
