The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ondo State Command, has warned motorists to obey all traffic regulations as anyone caught for infractions would be prosecuted and may spend Christmas season in custody.
Ondo State Sector Commander, Mr Ezekiel SonAllah, disclosed this on Friday in Akure while briefing journalists on the command’s preparedness for the “2021 Operation Zero Tolerance Special Patrol.”
The sector commander reiterated the corps’ commitment to the enforcement of overloading, and other road traffic infractions, especially during this period.
He stressed that “any motorist caught will be prosecuted at the mobile courts.
“Whoever violates traffic rules and is convicted will be taken to prison, because mobile courts have been activated now for speedy trial of road traffic offenders in the state. It is not longer business as usual.
“So, people must exercise patience and cultivate discipline whenever they are on the wheel to avoid crashes,” he warned.
SonAllah also stated that the command had deployed no fewer than 670 personnel, 12 patrol vehicles, three ambulances, two bikes to ensure a traffic-free Christmas in Ondo
According to him, the deployment was to ensure free flow of traffic and zero crashes on highways during the holidays.
He added that all the deployed personnel and logistics would be on the roads until Jan.15, 2022.
“We have started public enlightenment and there is cooperation with other sister agencies to have free flow traffic during the Christmas celebrations.
“So, we deployed 454 regular marshals, 216 special marshals, and in terms of logistics, we have also deployed 12 patrol vehicles, two bikes and three ambulances.
“Also, there will be 24 hours standby rescue and recovery services of our ambulances, and 24 hours intelligence operation of personnel to give situation report of where to deploy more men to the highways.
“For now, those being deployed will cover Ikare-Akoko axis up to Owena, Ajibanidele down to Ore, Ondo town, and other strategic areas that we have mapped out,” he said.
The sector commander also advised motorists to keep within the speed limits and obey traffic regulations as well as ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy before putting them on the road.
