The Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN) has asked the newly elected executives of the International Press Institute (IPI) Nigeria to be excellent ambassadors by respecting the fundamentals of journalism in the fulfillment of their duties.
The National President of the MMPN, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, said in a congratulatory statement issued on Sunday in Abuja that the association was pleased with the emergence of the core professionals.
He also urged the new leaders of IPI Nigeria to use their wealth of experience as tested professionals to raise the international body’s and its members’ standards.
Similarly, Balogun urged them to make it an all-inclusive administration that included all stakeholders and restored the institute’s former glory.
While praying for their successful and impactful administration, he stated that MMPN, as a professional media organization with a religious bias, would be willing to collaborate with IPI Nigeria to achieve their goals.
Muskilu Mojeed, Editor-in-Chief and Chief Operating Officer of Premium Times, was elected President of the IPI Nigeria at the institute’s recent General Assembly in Abuja.
Others elected were Ahmed Shekarau, General Manager, Business and Strategy of Media Trust Ltd, as Secretary, and Rafatu Salami, Assistant Director, Digital Media of Voice of Nigeria (VON), as Treasurer.
The International Press Institute (IPI) is a global network of media executives, editors, and top journalists.
Since its inception in 1950, it has consistently and vehemently advocated for media freedom in all parts of the world.
The institute’s Nigerian chapter has also used its platform to oppose attacks on press freedom in the country.
