Mr Buki Ponle, Managing Director of News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), says the agency plans to acquire four drones for live event coverage and to expand its operations.
Ponle made the announcement on Wednesday in Ilorin at the start of a two-day Editorial Conference to assess NAN’s operations and adopt pragmatic and modern news agency journalism strategies.
Similarly, he stated that the agency is bolstering its operations through the use of alternative solar energy, computers, and multimedia devices.
He assured the public and subscribers that the agency was willing to make changes in the pursuit of “positive reporting and solution jorunalism.”
Ponle stated that the main goal of the agency was to ensure service delivery, be more relevant to subscribers, and continue to contribute to national development.
According to him, NAN is one of the country’s leading media organizations and wishes to remain a force to be reckoned with.
The managing director explained that, in addition to charting a new course for the agency, the retreat would restructure NAN for growth and development.
As a result, he charged the editors with maintaining an error-free report, as NAN would never tolerate error or mistake in order to maintain its colossal status on the continent.
Ponle stated that the agency’s efforts had resulted in a monthly average of approximately 5,000 stories, 700 images, 100 videos, and 50 audio clips being transmitted to various clientele.
He charged the editors with being committed to their work and being diligent mentors to aspiring reporters.
While cautioning against polarization and divisive tendencies, the managing director urged staff to maintain the NAN family’s bond of unity.
He also stated that the agency has weathered many storms in the past, but has emerged stronger despite its difficulties.
“I take office in September 2020, but we have to survive as a family.” We were able to survive because of our bond.
“I will continue to prioritize employee well-being and ensure that we take NAN to the next level,” he said.
