Plateau State residents promised peaceful, crime-free Christmas, New Year celebrations

The Police Command in Plateau has assured the people of the state of peaceful and crime-free Christmas and New Year celebrations.

ASP Ubah Ogaba, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command said this in a statement on Thursday in Jos.

He stated that the command had put in place elaborate and workable security strategies to curtail crime and criminality before, during and after the festive period.

“The command wishes to felicitate residents and people of Plateau on the occasion of Christmas and New Year.

“To ensure a crime-free Christmas and New Year, we have positioned our patrol vehicles in strategic locations to respond promptly to distress calls from members of the public day and night,’’ he said.

Ogaba advised intending travellers to patronise only authorised motor parks to avoid being victims to kidnappers, armed robbers and other criminal elements.

He further advised members of the public to adhere to all safety protocols put in place by government against the spread of COVID-19.

The PPRO maintained that the command suspended operations of tricycles between Saturday, Dec. 25 and Dec. 26, and Jan. 1, 2022, adding that the ban on operations of commercial motorcycles subsists.

“The Commissioner of Police in the state has ordered full enforcement of its earlier ban on the sales and use of fireworks, bangers, and knockout.

“Consequently, parents and guardians are advised to caution their children and wards to be law-abiding as any offender will be arrested and prosecuted,’’ he said.

Ogaba also called on residents of the state to be vigilant and report any suspicious movements within their vicinities to security agencies for prompt action.
