Comedian advocates free, compulsory education for children

Seven-year-old Edo-based comedian, Ms Osayuki Ojhomwen, on Monday advocated free and compulsory education for children in the country.

Ojhomwen in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) noted that the rate of out-of-school children in the state was alarming.

“Many children are suffering; they hawk sachet water under the sun without attending school.

“There should be law that would make education compulsory and free for children. Children must be made to go to school,” the comedian said.

The skit maker also advised the Federal Government to adopt the strategy of the renowned Nigerian Hip hop artiste, David Adeleke alias Davido, to raise money for infrastructure development, instead of borrowing.

Ojhomwen asserted with the way Adeleke was able to raise over N200 million within 48 hours had demonstrated that well meaning Nigerians could be mobilised for national development.

‘Instead of the Federal Government to continue borrowing, it can leverage on the idea of Davido to raise some money to fix infrastructure deficiency for the benefit of us all.

“I believe many well to do Nigerians will be willing to donate generously to such course,” she said.

The upcoming artiste, who also donated N1,000 during Davido’s fundraising, said she did that from her savings to help the musician.

She urged Nigerians to always help one another particularly the vulnerable and indigent, and avoid condemnation of help-seekers.

Ojhomwen also called on the government to encourage comedians to grow the entertainment sub-industry.

The skit maker said she looked forward to Emmanuela Samuel and Success Madubuike, the foremost comedians in the country, soon to crossbreed ideas and be mentored on better ways to be famous.
