Enugu LG Polls: ENSIEC Chairman reveals commission readiness for the election

Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) says it is 100 per cent ready for the state’s local government elections slated for Wed. Feb. 23.

The Chairman of the commission, Chief Mike Ajogwu disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Tuesday.

He statwd that the commission had concluded administrative and logistics arrangements for the exercise.

Ajogwu said that non-sensitive materials had been moved to their respective locations more than two weeks ago.

He also said that some sensitive materials had been moved to the wards, while the most sensitive materials, such as the result sheets, would be moved before 5 p.m. on Tuesday (today).

He said: “I urge the electorate to endeavour to be at the polling booths by 8a.m.

“All the needed materials, officials and security personnel would have arrived at their duty posts before 8a.m.

“The elections will end latest by 3p.m.

“The polling booth and ward counting and collation of results will be done simultaneously just after the casting of the votes by 3p.m.,” he said.

The chairman said that ENSIEC had put everything in motion to ensure a transparent and fair exercise.

“We have provided a level playing field for all the candidates and political parties.

“No candidate duly presented by a political party has been disqualified or asked to step down in the elections,” he noted.

He urged the people to come out en mass and vote for the candidates of their choice to represent them for the next two years.

“I will call on candidates to do their best and stand tall, notwithstanding their political parties. “Since it is local council election, most times the locally popular candidate wins,” Ajogwu further said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the state government has declared Wednesday work-free to enable the people to go and cast their votes.

The exercise is to fill the 260 councillorship and 17 local government chairmanship seats in the state.
