More Russian sanctions on the way — German foreign minister

Further sanctions targeting Russian President Vladimir Putin are being prepared, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said at a NATO foreign ministers’ meeting.

“We will take further measures that specifically target Putin’s centre of power,’’ Baerbock said on Friday without giving further details.

Everything possible will be done “to put an end” to the suffering of the Ukrainian people, she said.

Questioned about possible sanctions on the Russian oil and gas sector, the European Union’s top diplomat Josep Borrell said “everything remains on the table.’’

Earlier, Canada, the European Union, Japan, New Zealand, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and the U.S. unveiled a series of sanctions against Russia targeting banks, oil refineries, and military exports.
