The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has commenced the training of 50 unemployed women on spices and seasoning production underbits Women Employment Branch (WEB) scheme in Nasarawa State.
Mr Chris Bamsida, the Nasarawa State Coordinator of the agency, disclosed this on Tuesday in Lafia at the opening of the training.
He said that the training was a deliberate scheme designed by the directorate to generate employment, create wealth and self employment in the economy.
“It is a deliberate scheme designed by the directorate to generate employment, create wealth and self employment in our economy where unemployment is a problem, especially among the unskilled women.
“In view of this, 50 unemployed women will be trained in various spices making such as curry, jollof rice seasoning, thyme, shayi mix, fried rice, ginger/garlic, fish seasoning and barbecue by skillful professionals.
“The training will last for five days and attendance must be taken seriously,” he said.
Bamsida urged the participants to exhibit high level of commitment and discipline to ensure the goals of the training were achieved.
“I also expect to see you as future trainers and producers of spices at the end of the programme.
“This will not only enable you to become employers of labour but will also enhance your contribution towards reducing unemployment in our country,” he added.
The state coordinator appreciated the Director-General NDE, Mallam Abubakar Fikpo, for considering Nasarawa state for the scheme.
Earlier, the Director, Small Scale Enterprise Department, NDE Headquarters, Mr Sunday David, urged the participants to take the training seriously in their interest and for the overall development of the state and the country at large.
David was represented at the programme by a staff of NDE Headquarters, Abuja, Mrs Bassey Attah, who also lauded the NDE director-general for keying into good policies ad programmes that would tackle unemployment in the country.
Responding on behalf of other beneficiaries, Madam Agnes Barnabas, appreciated NDE for the gesture and promised to be good ambassadors of the scheme
