46 drivers convicted by mobile court for reckless parking in Benin

An Urukpota Mobile Court in Benin City on Thursday convicted 46 drivers for reckless parking.

The state prosecuting counsel, Mr I. O. Kadiri, said that the convicts, who were apprehended within Benin metropolis, pleaded guilty to the charge preferred against them.

According to Kadiri, reckless parking of vehicles on public highways contravened Section 234 (a) and (b) of the Criminal Code Cap. 48, Vol. II, Laws of the defunct Bendel State, 1976, now applicable in Edo.

The presiding chief magistrate, Prince Mutairu Oare, ordered each of the convicts to pay a fine ranging from N20, 000 to N30, 000.

He, however, cautioned and discharged six other drivers who were also arraigned, but who proved before the court that their illegal parking was not intentional.
