Customs generates N10.1bn in Kano, Jigawa in 3 months – Controller

Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Kano/Jigawa Command, says it generated over N10.1 billion revenue between January and March.

The Area Controller of NCS, Mr Muhammad Abubakar-Umar, made the disclosure at a news briefing on Thursday in Kano.

Abubakar-Umar stated that the figure was higher than the N7.6 billion collected within the period last year, saying that this was a remarkable achievement.

He explained that the command would continue to put more efforts at enhancing revenue generation to enable government meet its obligations.

He said that the command seized some items, which included foreign rice, spaghetti, foreign soap, second-hand clothing and donkey skin, among others.

The NCS chief said that the seizures were made at different locations within the command’s jurisdiction during the period.

The controller put the duty paid value of the seized items at over N498.6 million.

He said that the command would continue to educate and dialogue with local communities on the dangers inherent in smuggling activities.
