Mr. Satomi Ahmed (APC – Jere Federal Constituency) has offered free registration of Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) to about 1,000 indigent students in his constituency.
The beneficiaries are mostly orphaned by Boko Haram and indigent students with no resources to register for the examination.
Satomi said this during the inauguration of the exercise on Wednesday in Maiduguri.
He said the gesture was to fast-track the development of education in the state, adding that it would assist the students in realizing their dreams and furthering their education.
“UTME is the first stage that will qualify you for tertiary education, I have a strong passion for girl education, especially in medicine, science, and technology. I am glad to see that 60 percent of the beneficiaries are girls,” he said.
The lawmaker said that he attracted viable education and health development projects executed by the Federal Government in the area in the past three years.
He listed the projects to include the construction of classroom blocks and clinics, provision of instructional materials, scholarship awards, and distribution of farm inputs to farmers, among others.
He urged the students to dedicate themselves to studies to enable them to achieve academic excellence.
In his remarks, Ali Kachalla, Chairman, All Progressive Congress (APC), Jere chapter, lauded the gesture, saying it would encourage sustainable social and economic development in the state.
Kachallah urged the students to dedicate themselves to studies to enable them to pass the examination with good grades.
Muhammed Isa, one of the beneficiaries, also commended the gesture and pledged to work hard to excel in the examination.
