Rev. Fr. Lawrence Soja- Anyembugu, a Catholic Priest in Nasarawa State, has urged Nigerian youths to channel their intellect and energy into agriculture for self sustenance, food security and to boost the nation’s economy.
Soja-Anyembugu, Parish Priest in- charge of St. John’s Catholic Church Awe, Nasarawa State, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Wakama, Akun Development Area of the state.
According to the clergyman, it has become imperative as agriculture remained a veritable means of eradicating poverty, high unemployment and ending food insufficiency in any nation.
The priest charged Nigerian youths to take advantage of modern agricultural practices to improve on their livelihood, be gainfully engaged and ensure food security.
“We are now in the rainy season, season for farming. I want to call on the youths and other Nigerians to go back to farm in their interest and for overall development of the country,” he said.
Soja-Anyembugu also urged the youths not to neglect education and skills acquisition programmes considering their importance to human and societal development.
He added that no nation could achieve any meaningful progress and development without sound education.
He enjoined the youth to always tow the path of peace building as alternative means of resolving conflicts rather than confrontation and violence approach in attempt to settling differences.
The priest urged Nigerians to be law abiding, respect constituted authorities, live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of ethnic, religious and politics affiliations.
He added that peace was priceless, non negotiable and a necessary requirement for the development of any society.
