2023: Don’t vote ‘blindly’ for candidate with self-serving intentions- Cleric

Dr Emmanuel Udofia, the Primate, The African Church, has called on Nigerians to avoid voting blindly for candidates with self-serving intentions as President in the 2023 general elections.

Udofia also urged them to shun ethnic and religious sentiments in electing their leaders as the 2023 general election approaches.

Udofia made the call on Thursday in Ibadan at a news conference to herald the fourth Biennal Conference of The African Church in Ibadan.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Biennial Conference with the theme: “Redeeming The Time” is the 121st Conference of the Church founded in 1901.

Udofia urged Nigerians to allow a man after God’s heart to emerge as the President in 2023 instead of voting blindly for candidates with self-serving intentions.

According to him, while considering the best suitable candidate for the job, I urge Nigerians to shun ethnic and religious sentiments.

“They should allow a man after God’s heart to emerge as the President in 2023, instead of voting blindly for candidates with self-serving intentions,” Udofia said.

He implored all political actors and gladiators to play their games according to the rules while being mindful of the fact that politics was not a do or die affair.

“Political arrangements, permutations, alignment and re-alignments are on top gear now toward the 2023 General Election.

“I will implore political actors and gladiators to play their games according to the rules, being mindful of the fact that politics is not a do or die affair,” he said.

Udofia called on members to take an active part in politics and all the political processes ranging from the collection of voters’ cards to other political activities.

He also urged members to aspire for political positions, but should not forget that “they are going there as light to shine into the darkest areas”.

On the establishment of the Directorate of Politics and Governance in some Churches, he said that there was nothing wrong with the existence of such department as “it is meant to sensitise and encourage their members to participate actively in politics”.

Udofia said: “More than ever before, the Church needs to intensify on its prayers and sensitisation of members so that they will not be deceived into another slavery.

“And, it is to ensure that God will install a man after His own heart to rule this nation,” the cleric said.
