Mr Christian Ughanze, newly-elected President-General (PG) of Amansea Development Union, in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra, has assured the people of inclusive leadership and rural development.
Ughanze said in an interview with our correspondent on Monday that his regime would operate an open door policy to enhance peaceful and productive environment in Awka.
He said that his leadership will be in synergy with their traditional ruler, Igwe Chukwuma Anigbogu, and the youths of the community in order to achieve a resounding success within the three years of his tenure.
The PG said that plans are underway for a town-hall meeting with the community, where ideas and exchange of knowledge would be shared amongst the people for a robust achievement in developmental projects of the community.
He said that the Amansea community is made up of five villages, namely Amaowelle, Okukwa, Egbeagu, Umuokpala and Orebe and that he intends to elect youth leaders from each village for easy collaboration for effective and responsive leadership.
“Any leader that desires success of his community must gainfully engage the youths in the planning and programmes of the community for smooth running of the community affairs.
“You have to get the youth as future leaders of the community closer to the happenings in and around the community for first hand information of strategic plans to develop the community beyond its present state,” he said.
Ughanze said that his leadership would initiate creative ideas that would rework the re-orientation of the youths mindset on reason to shun illegal means of livelihood, cultism, drug abuse, and other societal ills.
He said that the youths are his primary target because once they are well informed, criminal activities of any type would be contended within the community.
The PG said that Amansea as a community is bedeviled with many social challenges and he hope to seek the cooperation of all indigenes to achieve success in area of educational upgrade, health centres and rehabilitation of roads.
“Our primary schools need to be upgraded, Eziogbo primary and Amaowelle community primary schools need to be upgraded to meet a conducive learning environment to promote the zeal for education amongst our people,” the PG said.
He said that the presence of good road networks, schools, health centres, skill acquisition centres amongst other basic amenities would promote growth and development of the community.
He said he will respectfully work with the new traditional ruler of the community with a view to attracting the presence of Anambra Government to the area for holistic infrastructural development with particular reference to road construction.
Ughanze described the state of roads, not only in Amansea Community but in the entire Communities in Awka North Local Government Area of the state, as a complete death trap that needed urgent attention.
He said that they are in agrarian environment and deserves quality road networks to enable farmers to transport agricultural produce to markets for prospective buyers.
Ughanze said that team work is key to his leadership and urged the people to come together and do the things they could collectively do to enhance the development of the Community.
He said that the community should have a solid channel of communication where the views and agitation of the people would be pulled together and sorted out to proffer lasting solutions to any uprising in the community.
“I promised the people that within the limitations of my power, I would at all times persuade the people fomenting trouble in the community to understand that peace and development cannot thrive in a place bedeviled by unabated social uproar.
“I appeal to the people to embrace peace for the interest of the people and visitors living therein,” he said.
Ughanze commended the support of the past PGs, Chief Ifeanyichukwu Nweze, and Dr. Anerobi Okoye, for their efforts to ensure a peaceful elections and promised to carry on from where they stopped.
He said that with their support and constructive criticisms, I will pursue the provision of other social amenities that would make life more meaningful in the area, under the leadership of Prof Chukwuma Soludo as governor of Anambra.
He said that the immediate past Traditional Ruler of the community, late Igwe Kenneth Okonkwo, who died on July 24, 2019, would be remembered for his quest for peace, love and unity of the community.
NAN reports that Ughanze, from Umuokpala Village, was elected the PG of Amansea Development Union on April 18, to serve a term of three years with other elected officers, including Chief Emeka Nweke as the Secretary General of the Union.
Other elected officers included Chief Onochie Obi, as the Vice President-General of the Community, Theophilus Okafor, Chief Provost, Amobi Ndibe, Treasurer, and Mr. Emmanuel Anigbogu, Financial Secretary,
Mr. Paul Okeke and Chijioke Upia were returned unopposed as the Assistant-Secretary and Public Relations Officer of the Union respectively, among others.
