Mrs Bridget Anyafulu and Mr Frank Esenwah have emerged Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates, for the Delta House of Assembly, for Oshimili South and North constituencies respectively, for the 2023 general elections.
In a delegate elections monitored in Asaba on Sunday, Anyafulu polled 16 votes out of 35 votes, to emerge winner at the poll conducted and monitored under the watch of a team of security officials and the media.
The Returning Officer, Chief Funkekeme Solomon, a chieftain of the PDP, declared Anyafulu winner, following a peaceful and successful elections.
He adjudged the election as transparent, free and credible, while appending his signature on the certificate and congratulated Anyafulu for emerging winner.
According to Solomon, Anyafulu polled a total of 16 votes out of the total accredited 35 delegates, for the primary election in Oshimili South.
Anyafulu, the immediate past State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, resigned her appointment, to pursue her ambition to represent her constituency in the State House of Assembly.
Her closest contestant in the election, Mr Ikechukwu Maduemezia, garnered eight votes while the incumbent, Mr Shadrach Rapu, secured only three votes in the election.
In an interview, Anyafulu, who was overtaken by emotion, said the election was a win, win for all, adding that there were no losers.
“The people of Oshimili South won, I am only going there to represent the people,” she said.
In a similar development, Esenwah, an aide to Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa, also resigned his
appointment, in line with the provision of the amended Electoral Act, to pursue his ambition, to represent the people of Oshimili North, in the House of Assembly.
His rival at the primary, Chief Shimite Bello, had congratulated Esenwah on his victory after the elections at Akwukwu Igbo, the Local Government headquarters, as the dully elected PDP candidate for the Oshimili North Constituency
