An Upper Area Court sitting in Ilorin on Wednesday remanded in prison custody, one Samuel Titus, 41, alleged to have fraudulently obtained N2.5 million for sale of 10kg of gold.

Titus, whose address was not provided in the charge sheet, is facing a three-count charge of criminal breach of trust, conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretences.

The trial judge, Mr Moshood Ajibade, gave the order to enable the Police conduct a full investigation into the case.

Ajibade subsequently adjourned the case till June 14 for mention.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Iwaloye AbdulRauf told the court that on May 25, one Ismaila AbdulRazaq of Medina Area, Ilorin lodged a petition with the Commissioner of Police in Kwara.

AbdulRauf said that the petition alleged that sometimes in May, one Ahmed Maigida, a gold merchant at Balogun Gambari compound, Ilorin, and the accused person, visited the complainant at his home.

He said that Maigida introduced Titus to the complainant as the owner of a gold site in Ilesha, Osun state, and produced 1kg raw gold sample to the complainant to convince him.

The prosecutor said that AbdulRazaq believing the genuineness of the gold, therefore, paid the sum of N34,000 to the gold merchant and his colleagues.

Abdulrauf said that on May 24, the defendant took the complainant to a gold site at Ilesha, Osun state, where the latter met four other people who sold 10kg of purported raw gold to him for N2.5 million.

The prosecutor said that the complainant transferred the amount to the defendant through Stanbic IBTC account number 0035948626, with account name Ademola AbdulAzeez Olajide.

He said that AbdulRasaq later discovered that the raw gold was fake and immediately informed the defendant, who denied knowing the gold merchant.

The prosecutor said that investigations conducted revealed that the defendant criminally conspired with Maigida and others now at large to defraud the complainant.

He informed the court that the Police needed more time to complete their investigation in the case and applied for the remand of the accused person in Police custody.
