Some education experts have called for a deeper infusion of technology into Nigeria’s education system to ensure a resilient system to mitigate possible challenges in learning in the future.
They made the call during a webinar organised by Mastercard foundation in collaboration with Co-Creation tech hub on Monday in Lagos.
The discussion had the theme: “Harnessing the power of technology to create resilience in education sector in Nigeria”.
The experts said that building a resilient education system in Nigeria required a unique digital platform where all stakeholders in the education sector could come together to make input in education policy formulation.
One of the panelists, the Education Manager, United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Nigeria, Rudra Sahoo, said that there was a need for a digital education-centered curriculum in Nigeria’s education system.
“UNICEF has been involved in providing digital capacity and integration of technology to the classroom in Nigeria as part of UNICEF’s response to building resilience in the education sector.
“We also partnered Federal Ministry of Education in building a robust digital learning platform with a lot of learning resources for both teachers and students,” he said.
Also speaking, Dr. Henry Ogundolire, an edtech learning solutions developer, said that teachers should build their resilience to cope with evolving challenges in learning by engaging in time-to-time digital upskilling and adaptation.
On his part, Oladimeji Ojo, edtech specialist, said that the introduction of video teaching and learning by gaming platforms could address learning losses and give students opportunities for re-learning.
