Special marshals, ROSOWA  hold Eid-el-Kabir mega rally on safe driving

Special Marshals, Kaduna Sector Command and Road Safety Officers Wives Association (ROSOWA), on Thursday held Eid-el-Kabir mega rally at Lagos Motor Park, Mondo in Igabi Local Government Area in the state .

Reports have it that the theme of the event is “Drive Safe in this Raining Season” .

The  State Coordinator,  Special Marshals, Mr  Shamsudeen  Fadare, in his welcome address , said the  2022 Sallah Mega Rally was to  promote safety on the highways.

According to him, this year’s mega rally is unique because it is in collaboration with ROSOWA to pilot safety campaigns and demonstrate the commitment and passion to promote safety on the highways.

“As you all are aware, safe motoring is a core objective of the Road Safety Corps that must be pursued with vigour and directed to achieve its mandate.

“We implore all motorists to abide by traffic rules, avoid all behavioural risks while driving and ensure all necessary items required for safe driving are intact in all vehicles at all times.

He explained that in the rainy season, auto crash were more prevalent, going by available statistics.

“This has become worrisome as we have lost precious lives on the highways.

Fadare said to avoid the unfortunate scenario, the mega rally was aimed at sensitising motorists to how to drive safe during the rainy season.

He said certain measures, including  functional wipers, current vehicle tyres and correct air pressure, were needed for safe driving.

He said speed and breaks should be checked for effective breaking system, observance of recommended road signs and others were also important to safety standards.

Earlier, the Sector Commander, Mr Hafiz Muhammed, said the purpose of the rally was “to see how we use our road safely”.

Mohammed represented by Deputy Coprs  Commander Operation, Mr Solomon Igbogbo, said the command would continue to do its best to reduce road crashes to the breast minimum.

Also, the Chairperson ROSOWA, Hajiya Sa’ida Muhammed, urged motorists to be cautious while driving on the road.

Muhammad said: “You can’t drive when you are not alive, so the life of driver and passengers are very important, so drive safely”.

Also, the Kaduna State Secretary, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURWT) Mr Hassan Ibrahim, said the union sensitised its members to the rules and regulations of traffic laws.

“We will do our best and do the needful to avert road traffic crashes in the state, Ibrahim said.”
