Accord Party candidates protest exclusion from INEC list

Candidates of the Accord Party (AP) in Sokoto State on Wednesday protested their non-appearance on the list of aspirants displayed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The candidates, led by the AP Gubernatorial candidate in the state, Ibrahim Liman, expressed their displeasure at a news conference in Sokoto.

According to Liman, the briefing becomes necessary to inform their supporters, well-wishers, and all concerned citizens about the situation.

“This is following the display of aspirants list under each political party by INEC, my name as a gubernatorial candidate, along with other national and state assemblies, did not appear.

“Which means that the particulars of affected candidates were not duly uploaded on the INEC website by the national office of Accord Party,” he said.

He explained that they followed the necessary steps and specifications of both INEC and AP governing the presentation of aspirants.

“We had followed all the necessary steps, including primary elections, filling of relevant forms, affidavit and presenting same to the National Accord office in Abuja accordingly,” he added.

The gubernatorial candidate further said that the leadership of the national and state party was aware of this development and taking necessary steps to do the needful.

He appealed to their supporters to remain calm, united, and loyal to the party and all other constituted authorities in the spirit of democracy and purposefulness.

He said their mission was to revive the political culture characterized by corruption, indiscipline, and irresponsibility.

“Good citizens of Sokoto State in particular and country in general, it is time we rethink and embrace political responsibility, reverse our focus from personal to the public interest and the development of humanity.

“We are ready to provide the necessary leadership and with your support and cooperation our victory is certain,” he said.
