Nasarawa Assembly warns agency against supply of sub-standard drugs

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Health has warned the Drugs and Supplies Management Agency against supplying fake and sub-standard drugs to hospitals and clinics in the state.

Mr Labaran Shafa, Chairman of the committee, issued the warning on Tuesday when management of the agency appeared before the committee on its 2022 budget assessment.

Shafa, represented by a member of the committee, Mr Mohammed Omadefu, said that the supply of quality drugs was necessary for safety of the people.

He said the importance of the agency to the health and development of the state could not be overemphasised

”Hence, the need for the committee to be ready to support the agency to succeed in its activities.

“We will continue to support you due to the importance of the agency to human health and for the overall development of the state.

“We are urging you to ensure the supply of quality drugs in the interest of the health of our people and for the overall development of the country, ” he said.

The chairman said that the committee would do its best in complementing the state government efforts to give the health sector lifeline.

He however called on the state government to provide adequate funds for the agency to operate effectively.

“We are calling on the state government to make provisions for you so that you will operate effectively, considering the importance of the agency to the state,” he said.

Earlier, Mr Haruna Wakili, the General Manager of the agency, appreciated the committee for the support and appealed for increase funding.

Wakili assured that the agency would supply quality drugs to improve the health status of the people of the state.
