Man arraigned over alleged threat to kill

An 80-year-old man, Ayoola Adewole, on Monday, appeared before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court over allegedly threatening to kill.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Adesina Elijah, told the court that the defendant committed the offense on April 22, 2022, around 09:00 am, at Ayekoka village in Ile-Ife.
Elijah said that the defendant threatened with violence to kill one, Adekunle Bose with a cutlass.
He added that the defendant forcibly entered the cocoa and kola nut plantation entrusted to the care of Bose, caused a breach of peace, and threatened to kill her.
According to him, the defendant also assaulted one Fayenuwo Pelumi by beating him with a plank.
Elijah also said that the defendant stole some quantities of wet cocoa beans, some quantities of red cherry, and some quantities of kola nut, valued at N230,000, properties of Adekunle Bose.
The Prosecutor stated further that the offense contravened sections: 81, 86, 351 and 383, 388, and 390(9) of the Criminal Code and laws of Osun, 2002.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to four-count charges of assault, breach of peace, a threat to life, and stealing.
Magistrate A. I. Oyebadejo granted the bail of the defendant in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Oyebadejo added that the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means, reside within the court’s jurisdiction, and be gainfully employed, with three recent passport photographs each.
The case was adjourned until Aug. 30, for mention.
