Assembly, Nasarawa Govt collaborate via sports to promote unity, peace

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Youths and Sports has assured the state government of robust collaboration through sports to promote unity and peace in the state.

Mr Salihu Iyimoga, the Chairman of the committee, said this when the state Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Amb. Lucky Isa, appeared before the committee on its 2022 budget assessment in Lafia on Monday.

Iyimoga said that sports remained an important tool for promoting unity and peace in the society, hence the need of the committee’s readiness to support the ministry to succeed at all times.

He acknowledged the achievements of the ministry in the promotion of youth development and called for its sustenance.

“I want to assure you of our support to succeed considering the importance of your ministry to youth development.

“The importance of sports to the development of the youths and the society cannot be overemphasised.

“Apart from enhancing physical fitness, sports also promotes unity, peace, love and tackle youth’s restiveness in the society,” he said.

The chairman said that the sporting industry must be given the necessary support and priority, hence the need to give the ministry all the support to succeed.

Iyimoga however enjoined them to ensure that they adhere strictly to due process and maintain standard in whatever they were doing for the good image of the ministry and the state.

He described Gov. Abdullahi Sule as a sports lover and was doing everything possible to make the industry excel in the state.

Earlier, the commissioner appreciated the committee and the entire lawmakers for their consistent support.

Isa also commended the governor for his support for the sports sector and called for its sustenance.

The commissioner restated the ministry’s commitment to initiate good policies and programmes that would tackle youth restiveness and improve on their standard of living in the state.
