Literacy Day: National library donates books to orphanage in Jos

The National Library of Nigeria (NLN) in Jos has donated some books to House of Recab, an orphanage in Jos, as part of activities to mark the 2022 International Literacy Day.

Mrs Sarah Emmanuel,  the Head of Jos branch of NLN , who presented the books on Thursday in Jos, said that the gesture aimed at promoting reading culture among young people,  particularly the hard-to- reach.
She also said that gesture would create deeper awareness on the importance of reading and writing with understanding toward the growth and development of the society.
”This visit is organised mainly to mark this year’s International Literacy Day and to create awareness and encourage these children on the importance of reading and writing with understanding.
”We have donated some books to them as a stimulus toward improving their reading culture with a view of ensuring a literate society
”These books will add to the stock of books they already have in their library,” she said.
Receiving the books, Mr Anthony Toyin, the director of the orphanage, thanked donors for the gesture and assured them that it would be put to good use.
He promised to continue to promote reading culture among the children, adding such move would enable them to become better persons in the society.
