NG-cares targets 62,443 beneficiaries in Adamawa

A total of 62,443 poor and vulnerable persons in Adamawa are to receive financial support through the Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery And Economic Stimulus (NG-cares).

Hajiya Aishatu Bawa, the programme manager in the state, said in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola on Wednesday that the gesture was to enhance their means of livelihood.

She said 1,073 small and micro businesses and 156 wet markets had been registered under the programme in the state.

“We are fully committed and determined in implementing the lofty objectives of the programme,” Bawa, who also heads the state Poverty Eradication and Wealth Creation Agency, said.

She said Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri had since released the state counterpart fund of N932 million for the speedy implementation of the programme.

According to her, already 1,950 youth comprising 880 females and 1,070 males receive N10,000 each monthly as empowerment grant under the scheme.

She added that under the Community and Vulnerable Group Basic Service component, nine micro projects have been completed across eight communities with 13,000 direct beneficiaries.

“The comp leted projects were blocks of classroom s, hostels, hospitals, motorized and hand pump boreholes,” Bawa said.

The state government recently distributed  Information and Communication Technology gadgets to 565 registered NG-cares beneficiaries.
