FRSC cautions motorists against fairly used tyres in Akwanga

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has urged motorists to stop buying fairly used tyres for the vehicle to prevent crashes in Akwanga Local Government Area, Nasarawa State.
The Nasarawa State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr Ibrahim Maiyaki-Bazama gave the advice during the inauguration of 2022 “ember” months campaign at Akwanga motor park on Friday.
The theme of the 2022 Ember Months’ Campaign is “Avoid Speeding, Overloading and the use of unsafe Tyres to Arrive Alive.”

Motorists should cultivate the habit of always buying brand new tyres because this would help in preventing accidents on our roads and it is also good for the performance of the car.

Buying fairly used tyres is not good because they must have expired or the tyre might not be good for the kind of roads we have in the country, he added.

The sector commander attributed more than 75 per cent of road crashes since January to speeding in Nasarawa State, urging motorists to be cautious.

Also, he advised both commercial private vehicles drivers to desist from over loading and other dangerous practices in order to remain safe.

The Unit Commander of Akwanga, Mr Bishop Agounorobo-Agborie, on his part said the ember months campaign was aimed at enlightening drivers on safety rules and its implications in order to curtail road crashes.
Agounorobo-Agborie said that officers of the commission had been deployed to strategic locations in the area to ensure smooth flow of traffic and curtail crashes.
Furthermore, he warned those in the habit of taking drugs or drinking alcohol before driving to desist or be made to face wrath of the law.
The Akwanga Unit Commander cautioned the members of the public to always corporate with the commission for the safety of the high ways.
Some officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) were at the event to sensitise drivers on the need to shun drugs when driving.
