Rector tasks researchers on innovation to enhance knowledge

Dr Salisu Umar, the Rector, Auchi polytechnic, Auchi, Edo, on Tuesday tasked academics on high-quality research work to enhance knowledge.

Umar made the call at a four-day workshop on Capacity Building in Quality Research Writing and Publication, organised by Auchi Polytechnic TETFUND Centre of Excellence in Creative Innovation and Entrepreneurship Dynamics.

Umar said that there was the need for members of the academia to conduct modern researches to solve societal problems.

He noted that the workshop was to create and foster a culture of innovation from research work undertaken by the institution.

He said it would be wrong for an academic to deliver an excellent paper and remained unnoticed.

“In Auchi Polytechnic today, we are not going to remain like that.

“We are going to use any of our output to make progress and take Auchi Polytechnic to greater heights within the limited resources at our disposal,” he said.

Umar added that academics must think more of how to proffer solutions to problems bedeviling the society.

The rector said research was the hallmark of any academic institution and urged the participants to take advantage of the workshop to develop their skills.

“A modern research is one that gives you international recognition beyond the spaces of your local school, local environment and country.

“A modern research is such that you can click your name on the website and your papers are listed.

“It is one you can sit down and write, imply one of the data processing mechanism, process your data and post it on the website.

“A modern research is the one the world can see what you have done, respond and gain from what you have done,” he said.

Earlier, the Director of the centre, Dr Ojo Bella-Omunagbe, said the workshop was to equip participants on modern research methodology.

Bella-Omunagbe said the workshop became imperative for the participants to gain more knowledge in research and compete favourably with internationally.
