Alhaja Ololade Agboola, the Oyo State Head of Service, has urged journalists to sensitise the general public on importance of election as their civic rights, using their profession.
Agboola made this plea at a Road Walk by members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Information Chapel (NUJIC), to mark the Chapel’s week on Tuesday.
She admonished members of the union to ensure that the information ditching out to the general public are truth and to be good watchdogs.
Also, she urged members of the NUJIC, who are civil servants, to imbibe the ethics of civil service and make the rules and regulations their guides.
Always remember that for you to be a member of this chapel, you have to be a civil servant.
Remember the ethics of the civil service in whatever you do, as this will guide your conduct everyday, she said.
Mr Ismail Fasasi, the Chapel Chairman, in his admonishment, advised journalists to be involved in regular physical exercise.
According to Fasasi, the Road Walk will keep members fit and enhance their performances while on duties.
The essence of the Walk is to ensure that journalists are physically fit to carry on with their constitutional responsibilities.
This is because, most times, journalists do not have time to exercise or go to hospital for medical checkup.
They are so busy on the job, from morning to night; they are all over the places doing their work.
So, we thought it wise to do the walk, which is a form of exercise to enhance physical fitness and healthy wellbeing, he said.
Mr Ademola Babalola, the state Chairman of NUJ, in his remarks, lauded members of the chapel for being one of the best chapels in the state.
Other chapels in the state, called on by Babalola to emulate the good works that the Fasasi led-administration has been doing in Information chapel.
He also appreciated all members in the Chapel for supporting his administration.
He promised to continue to record more successes in the state.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Road Walk took place within the premises of the state Secretariat, Agodi in Ibadan.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Oyesola Oyedele, led other Directors and Deputy Directors to participate in the Road Walk.
