The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy (FMCDE), has trained Nigerian government officials on digital governance to ensure effective performance.
The one-week programme, which was held in South Korea, was conducted from October 30 to November 5, 2022, for 21 officials as part of activities under the Project for Building Foundations Towards Digital Governance in Nigeria.
The project is a fully-funded grant programme, worth US$13 million, between Korea (represented by KOICA) and Nigeria (represented by the ministry).
In a statement, made available to NAN, Mr. Kayode Adebisi, Programme Officer, KOICA, said the training provided the 21-member Nigerian delegation with the opportunity to learn from Korea’s experience in e-government.
“This training has provided an avenue for the delegation to learn from South Korean experience and expertise in digital governance towards the expansion of digital governance in Nigeria.
“The Nigerian delegation took part in a number of workshops, including the 8th Global Leadership ICT Forum attended by officials of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the World Bank Group (WB), the Black Sea Economic Cooperation(BSEC) and partner countries.
“The delegation also undertook study tours to the National Information Resources Service managing the South Korean government’s integrated data centres and some historical sites,” Adebisi said.
Prof Isa Ibrahim Pantami, Minister of FMCDE who led the delegation, commended the South Korean Government for its efforts and contributions towards the advancement of digital governance in Nigeria.
At the training, Amb. Ali Magash, the Nigerian Ambassador to South Korea, said the cooperation between Nigeria and South Korea had brought “new heights”.
“Owing to the recent visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to South Korea and the invitational programme, this programme will further solidify the recent achievements recorded within Nigeria’s digital economy in recent times,” Magash said.
The delegation included the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan.
