The Progressive Youth Movement (PYM) has revealed its intention to resist the imposition of candidates on the party at the upcoming national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC).<\/p>\n
This is contained in a statement signed\u00a0by the\u00a0leader of PYM, Alhaji\u00a0Mustapha Audu,\u00a0on Saturday in Abuja.<\/p>\n
The News agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Gov. Mai Mala Buni led-Caretaker extraordinary convention planning committee has fixed Feb. 26 for the APC national convention.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe implore the committee not to bring any aged individual with a clear disconnect from the majority of members within the party.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will resist imposition of any candidate that is simply too old for the job of the chairman of the party,\u201c he said.<\/p>\n
Audu said that as the party goes into an election year, it needed to have an individual capable of withstanding the vigors of the campaign.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe also implore our leaders to ensure that there are positions reserved for young stakeholders within the party,\u201c he said.<\/p>\n
Audu also implored the\u00a0committee to involve all stakeholders in the selection process to avoid resentment in the party.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs the majority stakeholders in the party, we expect that the\u00a0committee will take certain factors into consideration\u00a0if it decides to select a consensus candidate,\u201c he said.<\/p>\n
Audu urged the committee to keep\u00a0to its promise to hold the convention on the fixed date as stakeholders had waited patiently.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe believe that holding the convention on that date will exhibit the sincerity and integrity of the\u00a0Buni led-committee.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe believe in the APC and her capacity to conduct a peaceful and\u00a0free convention where majority of her members will be\u00a0 happy with the outcome,\u201c he said.<\/p>\n
He said that the group would continue to\u00a0support and be loyal to the party to restore its original values, which won the hearts of Nigerians in 2015.<\/p>\n
Audu advised the committee to be transparent to ensure the party’s success in the 2023 general elections.<\/p>\n
