{"id":12442,"date":"2022-02-19T15:27:54","date_gmt":"2022-02-19T15:27:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=12442"},"modified":"2022-02-19T21:19:33","modified_gmt":"2022-02-19T21:19:33","slug":"poor-family-values-responsible-for-gender-based-violence-don-opens-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/02\/19\/poor-family-values-responsible-for-gender-based-violence-don-opens-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Poor family values responsible for Gender-Based Violence \u2014 Don opens up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A professor in the Faculty of Law, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Yusuf Dankofa, on Saturday said that poor in family values was responsible for Social and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2021\/12\/10\/ngo-calls-for-conversation-and-solution-towards-gender-based-violence\/\">Gender Based Violence (SGBV)<\/a> in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Dankofa disclosed this at a webinar organised by the National Association of Seadogs, Pyrates Confraternity, Panama Deck, as part of activities for its Feast of Barracuda.<\/p>\n<p>The professor,\u00a0who spoke on the topic,\u00a0\u201cCost, Consequences and Effects of Gender Based Violence\u201d, said that there was need for family re-orientation.<\/p>\n<p>He said that there was need to promote gender violence discourse and rules of engagement.<\/p>\n<p>The don said it was time that men saw women as partners and understand that their wives were not meant to be exploited.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s create a family where the women will grow in love; where women are not seen as sex objects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen women are seen in the family as partners, that is when we will have a free society,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Dankofa said that forced marriages in Africa lead to SGBV and that\u00a0enough attention was hardly paid to women empowerment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fact that there is large poverty in Africa, women are hardly empowered and girls seeking for marriage and protection become more vulnerable to exploitation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMarriage is all about offer and acceptance.
