{"id":14296,"date":"2022-03-09T16:21:39","date_gmt":"2022-03-09T16:21:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=14296"},"modified":"2022-03-09T16:21:39","modified_gmt":"2022-03-09T16:21:39","slug":"woman-43-gets-n1m-bail-for-alleged-n17-1m-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/03\/09\/woman-43-gets-n1m-bail-for-alleged-n17-1m-fraud\/","title":{"rendered":"Woman, 43, gets N1m bail for alleged N17. 1m fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/03\/04\/man-25-docked-for-alleged-motorcycle-theft\/\">Chief Magistrate of Iyaganku Chief Magistrates\u2019 Court,<\/a> Ibadan, Mr Emmanuel Idowu, has granted N1 million bail to 43-year-old Olubunmi Akintoye, who allegedly defrauded one Margaret Olunloyo to the tune of N17.1 million.<\/p>\n<p>The magistrate granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the matter to April 13, for mention.<\/p>\n<p>The police Wednesday arraigned Akintoye on a three-count charge bordering on\u00a0 fraud, stealing and intent to steal.<\/p>\n<p>Akintoye, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Police Prosecution, ASP Adewale Amos, the defendant sometime in October 2020, at Felele Junction, Ibadan, with the intent to defraud, allegedly obtained N17.1 million from Olunloyo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAkintoye allegedly collected the money from Olunloyo, under the pretence of buying Maggi product for export\u00a0to America,\u00a0knowing the same to be false.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe defendant was alleged to have stolen and fraudulently converted the N17.1 million to her own use.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAkintoye with intent to defraud allegedly obtained $4,500 (N1.96 million) from Olunloyo under the pretence to deliver the money to her daughter, Oluwatomisin, as her school fees in Turkey,\u201d Amos said.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 390 (9) and 419 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Chief Magistrate of Iyaganku Chief Magistrates\u2019 Court, Ibadan, Mr Emmanuel Idowu, has granted N1 million bail to 43-year-old Olubunmi Akintoye, who allegedly defrauded one Margaret Olunloyo to the tune of N17.1 million.
