The Cross River Command of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC)<\/a> on Wednesday organised a one-day sensitisation programme for the officers and other stakeholders on the need for regular eye checks.<\/p>\n

The Sector Commander, Mrs Elizabeth Akinlade while declaring the event open in Calabar, said it was part of the efforts of the command to ensure that the officers took care of their eyes.<\/p>\n

Akinlade said that the programme also aimed at ensuring that the officers were mentally equipped to perform their duties effectively.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis training is designed to enable officers to have more knowledge about glaucoma from experts. They will also undergo eye checks to determine their glaucoma status and if anyone is found to have the disease, he or she will be given drugs.”<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also brought a fire service expert to educate the officers on fire safety because safety is all-encompassing. Fire safety is also part of our responsibility, \u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The sector commander added that the capacity training was part of the command\u2019s efforts at building synergy with relevant agencies in the state for effective coordination.<\/p>\n

\u201cRecently, we partnered with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and the state road transport company to sensitise drivers on the proper use of roundabouts in the state”<\/p>\n

\u201cToday we are partnering with ophthalmologists from the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) and the State Fire Service and very soon we will meet with the drivers\u2019 union, \u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Akinlade advised motorists<\/a> to always go for regular eye checks, noting that driving required clear vision.<\/p>\n
