Alhaji Mukhtar Gidado, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Bauchi State Governor<\/a>,\u00a0 Bala Mohammed, has disbursed N1 million scholarships<\/a> to 100 indigent students in the state. Gidado said this at the inauguration of the disbursement exercise on Tuesday in Alkaleri, Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state.<\/p>\n

He said the gesture was to promote education and complement government efforts toward reinvigorating the education sector.<\/p>\n

The governor\u2019s aid said the beneficiaries were drawn from Alkaleri LGA, adding that each of them would receive N10,000 to encourage them in their educational pursuit.<\/p>\n

The gesture, he said, was part of a personal contribution aimed at promoting education in the area by encouraging the students, saying the scope of the programme would be expanded to enhance participation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe beneficiaries are carefully selected from Alkaleri, Bwana, Duguri, Pali, Gar, Gwaram, and Gokaru wards in the area,\u201d he said<\/p>\n

Gidado also presented two motorcycles to some members of the community for their contribution to the successful implementation of government policies and programmes.<\/p>\n

He said that Gov. Bala Moh\u2019amned\u2019s administration had achi9 remarkable progress in infrastructure development, especially in education, health, roads, security, and water supply.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Yusuf Garba, Chairman, Alkaleri LGC, lauded the gesture, saying it would contribute to the sustainable development of education in the state.<\/p>\n

He urged the beneficiaries to dedicate themselves to their studies to achieve academic excellence.<\/p>\n

Garba admonished the students to shun drug abuse and vices as well as be good ambassadors for their families.<\/p>\n

Mr. Walid Sunusi, President of Alkaleri Local Government Students Association (ALSAN), commended the gesture, adding that it would motivate the students to dedicate themselves to their studies.<\/p>\n

Also, Fatima Yakubu, one of the beneficiaries described the gesture as timely, saying it would positively impact their lives considering the harsh economic realities.<\/p>\n
