{"id":16387,"date":"2022-03-31T10:10:55","date_gmt":"2022-03-31T10:10:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=16387"},"modified":"2022-03-31T10:10:55","modified_gmt":"2022-03-31T10:10:55","slug":"nrc-commiserates-with-passengers-of-abuja-kaduna-train-incident","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/03\/31\/nrc-commiserates-with-passengers-of-abuja-kaduna-train-incident\/","title":{"rendered":"NRC commiserates with passengers of Abuja-Kaduna train incident"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"yiv7693385196yMail_cursorElementTracker_1648681802836\">\n<div id=\"yiv7693385196yMail_cursorElementTracker_1648681465779\">\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/03\/11\/nrc-reacts-to-hitch-on-ibadan-lagos-train-service\/\"><strong>Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC)<\/strong> <\/a>has commiserated with passengers on board its AK9 train of March 28 that was attacked by terrorists.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv7693385196yMail_cursorElementTracker_1648681822373\">In a statement, Mr Fidet Okhiria, NRC\u2019s Managing Director, expressed regret at the lives lost due to the attack, while praying for the quick recovery of injured persons.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv7693385196yMail_cursorElementTracker_1648680635819\">\u201dThe NRC deeply commiserates with all the passengers on board the NRC Ak9 train of March 28, their relatives and friends, the Government and people of Kaduna State and the Federal Capital Territory as well as the entire nation.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv7693385196yMail_cursorElementTracker_1648682229922\">\u201dIn particular, we regret the death of eight of our passengers and security personnel attached to the train service, as well as the injury suffered by scores of our passengers, not mentioning the trauma caused them and crew by the armed attack.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv7693385196yMail_cursorElementTracker_1648681042911\">\u201dWe also earnestly pray for the speedy recovery of injured passengers, while praying that God grants the families of the bereaved, the fortitude to bear the loss,\u201d Okhiria said.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv7693385196yMail_cursorElementTracker_1648682428681\">The NRC boss, however, implored members of the press, social media sites, and the general public to desist from spreading false information at this delicate time.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv7693385196yMail_cursorElementTracker_1648681107193\">He said: \u201dOur attention has, however, been drawn to the misleading and insensitive information circulating on social media with respect to the number of passengers on the train.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv7693385196yMail_cursorElementTracker_1648682577019\">\u201dFor the avoidance of any doubt, please note that the Abuja-Kaduna service is run on a fully automated e-ticket system with entry and exit turnstiles that validate every passenger on board our trains.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv7693385196yMail_cursorElementTracker_1648682625542\">\u201dTicket checkers also validate the tickets of every passenger via electronic validators linked to the central system to verify the integrity of our manifest.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv7693385196yMail_cursorElementTracker_1648682636051\">\u201dAbout 398\u00a0 passengers purchased tickets to travel on the NRC AK9 service, but 362 passengers actually boarded the AK9 service.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv7693385196yMail_cursorElementTracker_1648681180085\">\u201dThe entire seat capacity of the train in question is 840 passengers; therefore, the figure of 970 being circulated cannot be correct.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv7693385196yMail_cursorElementTracker_1648682778407\">\u201cThe AK9 service is the last service out of Abuja on a Monday evening and is usually at less than half capacity.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv7693385196yMail_cursorElementTracker_1648681239890\">\u201dPassengers on board the AK9 service on Monday have confirmed that the train was certainly not run at full capacity.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv7693385196yMail_cursorElementTracker_1648682972808\">\u201dThe NRC is continuing its efforts to reach out to the passengers using the comprehensive manifest in order to obtain valid information about their present condition,\u201d Okhiria stated.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has commiserated with passengers on board its AK9 train of March 28 that was attacked by terrorists.
