{"id":18014,"date":"2022-04-12T07:14:03","date_gmt":"2022-04-12T07:14:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=18014"},"modified":"2022-04-12T07:14:03","modified_gmt":"2022-04-12T07:14:03","slug":"5620-drivers-licences-unclaimed-in-delta-state-frsc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/04\/12\/5620-drivers-licences-unclaimed-in-delta-state-frsc\/","title":{"rendered":"5,620 driver\u2019s licences unclaimed in Delta State \u2013 FRSC"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>Mr Ibrahim Abubakar, Delta Sector Commander, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/04\/11\/frsc-reveal-plan-to-incorporate-drivers-riders-licence-in-1-card\/\"><strong>Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC),<\/strong> <\/a>has revealed that no fewer than 5,620 permanent driver\u2019s licences have yet to be collected in the state.<\/p>\n<p>He made this known while speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Asaba on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Abubakar frowned at<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"> the attitude of some<\/span>\u00a0motorists who processed driver\u2019s licences and never cared to collect them.<\/p>\n<p>He urged drivers with temporary driver\u2019s licence to go to the state Motor Licencing Office, where they had biometric capturing, and collect the permanent one.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost of the uncollected driver\u2019s ones are either because the applicant might have left the country or he has left\u00a0 the state,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He also said that it might be that some drivers had yet to be properly educated on the need for driver\u2019s licence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have some that are even expired, that means that they<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>have been in our custody for more than three years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have been trying to get across to the applicants for collection, many of the numbers on the driver\u2019s licence are no longer valid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometimes, we call their next of kin, even when we get them, they will promise to come and collect them but we will not see them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Abubakar said that possession of a valid licence remained a major requirement for driving, adding that absence of it constituted a traffic infraction and endangered the lives of road users.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, defaulters<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0risk<\/span>\u00a0N10,000 fine or six months\u2019 imprisonment or both.<\/p>\n<p>He appealed to motorists and to collect the licence in time.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mr Ibrahim Abubakar, Delta Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has revealed that no fewer than 5,620 permanent driver\u2019s licences have yet to be collected in the state.
