The Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET) Plc. says\u00a0 it is in the process of\u00a0 finalising a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Mabon Hydro Power Plant for 40 MW of electricity.<\/h1>\n<\/header>\n
\n

Ms Henrietta Ighommore, Head, Corporate Communications, NBET stated in Abuja on Tuesday that the 40MW would contribute immensely to strengthening and stabilising the National<\/a> Grid.<\/p>\n

\u201cMabon Hydro Power Plant is strategically located in Dadin Kowa area of Gombe State and is the only power plant located in the Northeast region,\u2019\u2019 she stated.<\/p>\n

Ighommore stated also that the additional power<\/a> from Mabon would contribute to reducing the current Weighted Average Cost of Power within NBET\u2019s portfolio, as generation of hydro power is relatively cheap.<\/p>\n

According to her, power from Mabon\u00a0is also a testament to Federal Government\u2019s\u00a0drive to commercialise small hydro plants and bring them upstream to ramp up power generation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe PPA is also in line with Nigeria\u2019s commitment to the UN COP 26 on accelerated action and support for Climate Change<\/a> Framework.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Hydro Plant being a clean energy source propels Nigeria towards fulfilling its obligations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe President Muhammadu Buhari\u2019s administration is committed to reducing carbon foot prints and supporting climate change initiatives.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is timely and coming at a time when the country is in need of every available power it can generate and wheel out to end users,\u2019\u2019 she stated.<\/p>\n

Ighommore added that NBET\u00a0had held a consultative forum with industry stakeholders on\u00a0how to facilitate the process of acquiring the power.<\/p>\n

She stressed that the meeting was\u00a0part of the series of actions that NBET was undertaking prior to closing out the PPA with Mabon Hydro Power Plant.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe meeting had in attendance representatives of Distribution Companies (DISCOs) and the sector regulator, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, as well as the Transmission Company of Nigeria.<\/p>\n
