{"id":18358,"date":"2022-04-13T12:09:27","date_gmt":"2022-04-13T12:09:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=18358"},"modified":"2022-04-13T12:09:27","modified_gmt":"2022-04-13T12:09:27","slug":"aviation-stakeholders-want-fg-to-review-multiple-frequencies-to-foreign-airlines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/04\/13\/aviation-stakeholders-want-fg-to-review-multiple-frequencies-to-foreign-airlines\/","title":{"rendered":"Aviation stakeholders want FG to review multiple frequencies to foreign airlines"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"entry-header\" aria-label=\"Content\">\n<h1 class=\"entry-title\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">\u00a0Some aviation stakeholders on Tuesday urged the Federal Government to review all multiple frequencies granted to foreign airlines before the take-off of the proposed national carrier.<\/span><\/h1>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>The stakeholders\u2019 view was made known in a communique issued at the end of an aviation roundtable held by the Assistant-General <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/04\/11\/ganduje-appoints-new-head-of-service-4-permanent-secretary\/\">Secretary<\/a>, Aviation Safety Roundtable Initiative (ASRTI), Mr Olumide Ohunayo in Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>Reports that the roundtable focused on: \u201cEconomic implications of multiple entry points by foreign airlines into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/04\/13\/stakeholders-express-worry-over-high-cost-of-construction-taxation-in-nigeria\/\">Nigeria<\/a>.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The communique stated that the current regime of multiple entry points granted to airlines like Ethiopia Airways, Qatar Airways, and others might minimise the chances of success and survival of the proposed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/04\/13\/national-para-games-nasarawa-thrash-kaduna-8-1-in-football-match\/\">national<\/a> carrier.<\/p>\n<p>It added that there should be transparent procedures and national interest in activities relating to granting of frequencies and entries to foreign airlines.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe granting of multiple entry points to foreign airlines flying into Nigeria should be done in a manner that it does not impede the growth of domestic carriers and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/03\/16\/un-says-west-africa-food-economy-to-reach-480-bn-by-2030\/\">economy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cQualified professionals in Bilateral Air Services Agreements (BASA)-related issues should be engaged when government is attending meetings relating to signing of BASAs between Nigeria and other countries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCommercial discussions and investments in Nigeria\u2019s airlines should be encouraged,\u2019\u2019 the communique stressed.<\/p>\n<p>Speakers at the roundtable noted that picking and dropping of passengers beyond the designated points of entry should be banned, while entry points to secondary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/04\/11\/effort-to-upgrade-ibadan-airport-to-international-standard-remains-on-course-gov-makinde\/\">international<\/a> airports should be granted to specific airlines.<\/p>\n<p>The communique stressed that it was imperative for government to support private airlines, so that Nigeria could develop very strong airlines to compete effectively with their foreign counterparts.<\/p>\n<p>It added that while also avoiding a situation where some private investors were given more protections or concessions; domestic airlines and Nigerians should be considered to buy 46 per cent of the proposed national <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/04\/01\/airline-operators-threaten-to-sue-fg-over-multiple-entries-for-foreign-airlines\/\">carrier<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The communique stated also that government\u2019s proposed 5 per cent stake in the national carrier should be made available in a transparent process through the Nigerian Stock Exchange to expand the performance of the market and access to the proposed national carrier.<\/p>\n<p>Speakers at the roundtable included Mr Abayomi Jones, Former Managing Director, Nigeria Airways; Alhaji Yunusa Abdulmunaf, President, Airline Operators of Nigeria; and Sen. Hadi Sirika, Minister of Aviation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/04\/13\/stakeholders-express-worry-over-high-cost-of-construction-taxation-in-nigeria\/\">Stakeholders<\/a> at the meeting were Capt.
