{"id":18746,"date":"2022-04-14T17:40:54","date_gmt":"2022-04-14T17:40:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=18746"},"modified":"2022-04-14T17:40:54","modified_gmt":"2022-04-14T17:40:54","slug":"man-docked-for-allegedly-scamming-89-year-old-man","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/04\/14\/man-docked-for-allegedly-scamming-89-year-old-man\/","title":{"rendered":"Man docked for allegedly scamming 89-year-old man"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0A man, Olugbemi Benjamin, was on Thursday docked in a Magistrates\u2019 Court\u00a0 in Ilorin for allegedly scamming an 89-year-old man of N130,000.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/04\/13\/police-officer-tells-court-how-man-allegedly-raped-22-year-old-drunk-woman\/\">police<\/a> charged Benjamin with criminal conspiracy, cheating and obtaining money by false pretence, contrary to sections 97 and 322 of Penal Code Law and Section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud Act, 2006.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Zacchaeus Folorunsho, told the court that the matter was reported by the complainant, Mrs Kemi Amodu who is also the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2021\/12\/17\/administrative-injustices-public-complainant-commission-announce-partnership-with-noa\/\">daughter<\/a> of the victim, Mr Simeon Joel.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Folorunsho alleged that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/04\/09\/ndlea-drags-defendant-to-court-over-100g-hemp-trafficking\/\">defendant<\/a> sometime in February, defrauded Joel, who suffered memory loss.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">He said that the defendant deceived\u00a0 Joel into gibing him N130,000 with a promise to make him a millionaire in three months.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The Defence Counsel, A.S Jimba prayed the court to grant his client bail in most liberal terms.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The prosecutor, however, said the investigation is ongoing\u00a0 and urged the court not to grant the defendant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/04\/04\/alleged-murder-court-grants-nurtw-chairman-n1m-bail-transfers-case\/\">bail<\/a>.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">However in his ruling, Magistrate Adam Bello, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100, 000 and two sureties in like sum.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Bello adjourned the matter until April 19 for further mention.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0A man, Olugbemi Benjamin, was on Thursday docked in a Magistrates\u2019 Court\u00a0 in Ilorin for allegedly scamming an 89-year-old man of N130,000.
